The text mask that is not masking the contour file- are you in a 3d file? If so, the elevation of elements takes priority. Change the elevation of the text element to higher than the contour elevation. If the contours are in a reference file change the reference display order in Ref Manager. Go to <Settings <Update Sequence. Place the file with your text so it is last in the list. Fist file in the list is displayed first everything else is displayed in order on top of that. Last file is displayed last. As far as individual object masking, I usually place a shape with the background color behind the text but over top of the element to mask. Again, in a 3d file elevation dictates display order. Element priority will not affect the display.
